The Hilo girls overwhelmed East-Pac 9-0 on Tuesday as the Big Island Interscholastic Federation soccer season kicked off.

Lolly Higa scored four goals for the Division I Vikings, who recorded a first mercy-rule victory in a match that ended at 76 minutes at St. Joseph’s field.

Camille Martinez, Jasmine Smeraglia, Evyn Helekahi-Kaiwi and Mehana Sabado-Halpern each added one goal. Sabado-Halpern had two assists.

The last goal at the 76-minute mark was a penalty kick by Jordyn Breitbarth, after East-Pac (a combination CLA-St. Joseph team) had a handball.

Senior goalie Breitbarth and freshman Danielle Brown combined for the shutout.

Kamehameha 9, Ka’u 0: Freshman Shariah Olomua netted a hat trick and the host Warriors also got goals from Tiana Iwata, Harper Hottendorf, Sachi Iwata, Bryana Ebbers and Pili Nahale-a.

Cyrene Andaya shut out the Trojans in goal.

Keaau 7, HAAS 0: At Pahoa’s football field, Ivan Akana and Richard Kanakaole-Hatori each scored two goals while Spencer Hanza, Justin Quesada, and Eric Tejada each had one apiece.

Cougars goalies Tyler Beyer and Rylan Aranaydo combined for the shutout against Na Naia.
